Beyond the heat and suburbia, what epitomizes the San Fernando Valley is Ventura Boulevard. Approximately 16 miles long, if there’s something you’re looking for, this infamous street is the place to find it.
On “the Boulevard” you’ll come across everything from non-chain coffee shops that, along with their waitresses, have been there for years, hotels that teach salsa lessons on the weekends, specialty bookstores for whodunit and science fiction fans, resale shops with fare from film sets, and inevitably, a place that will fix not only your vacuum cleaner but your sewing machine, too. On Saturdays sisters Barbara and Nancy head to the Boulevard, where they can accomplish everything on their to-do list. They catch up on gossip over a lunch at a quaint restaurant, and then hit the shops and boutiques looking for bargains. Afterward, the duo indulge in luxurious spa treatments to rev up for the week ahead. Husbands William and Bob join the ladies later for drinks and tapas. Jazz lovers, the four-some choose a restaurant where they can dine accompanied by a band. To cap off the perfect evening, the couples head out for the best entertainment the Valley has to offer—a cruise along Mulholland Drive for magnificent city lights below.
